Pretty simple

But with a small twist, all users get to vote,
on the opposite of .com we could implement this bc alts arent allowed on here.

user of the week wouldnt have to be the user who was the most productiv or the funniest,
Although imo that would be fair i think every user should decide for there own what it means to be the best member of the week.

.org has a yearly vote
.com has a monthly (although i am not a fan)
And we have a weekly vote.

The perks and shit could be whatever.

I think it would be a nice contrast and a simple addition.

Some small things that would be needed to make that work:
-multiple wins, on .com i always made a joke that @Flint and @TonyDrTonyDr is verified member. would get a multiple star motm. I think we could do that on here, with no maximum of total wins.
-reasonings, when you vote for a member yoz should need ti give a reasoning of why you think that member deserves the win,
the vote counts as long as the argument is an actuall argument and not just "bc he is the goat".
-mods/admins cant get the win. They should be the ones handing out the wins and shouldnt be able to win. Its like a politician who cant take part in the stock market.

it doesnt need to be exactly as i said but i think with the small changes i mentioned it could be an actually good system.

I think weekly is too often
It makes it less significant
I agree, weekly might be too often. It wouldn't give users enough time to properly decide who the next person should be.

1 week is also way too short of a time to make yourself stand out - so everyone would just pick their friends as a replacement.

I wouldn't mind if we hosted a monthly event though, sounds like a nice community activity.

I agree with most of it and understand the no mods being nominated but what if they were just a really good user? it'd be kinda strange to give it off to someone else if the moderator deserved that title that week/month. could just be my opinion tho. I get how it could be unfair

The problem with forbidding volunteer moderators from joining is they're usually just normal users who dedicate their free time to help out the site - they're not usually official representations of a site like an Admin would be.

I guess it would be like banning people who volunteer at charities from being able to enter the raffles. It's not usually a ban because you want to reward people who volunteer their time to the site, not prevent them from enjoying the "fun" parts of the site and only locking them into the un-enjoyable aspects of the site (moderating).

If maybe if it was an official position, like they were being paid or signed a contract, then it'd be something they can agree to, but right now there's no benefits a site moderator has compared to a OG Vet, besides they get more responsibility and have higher chances of getting in trouble. It would suck if we took away a community event from them because they decided to help the community.

With that being said, I do think weekly is too often. I've explained this on .com before when people asked me to change the voting system of MotM, but I don't want to dedicate an unnecessary amounts of my free time to hosting events like that. Doing it weekly would just become too much, especially if we're having a system where I have to read a bunch of replies and see if they're counted as "valid" or not.

I can create weekly trophies that are automatic that would be based off of certain statics (activity, post, rep, etc) but it'd be without human input mainly, and I assume a lot of the users don't care about the trophy system.

bc i havent hosted events like this i cant rly comment on that,

but a bot based on the stats would be perfect,
For example most posts per week, or most reps or sum
