What it is The KonMari Method?
A decluttering system by Marie Kondo. The main idea is to keep only things that “spark joy” and remove the rest.
Main goal is to do one deep reset of your home so everything you own feels useful or meaningful, not random clutter.Core ideas:
- Don’t focus on “what to throw away”, focus on what to keep
- Declutter first, organize second
- Do it in one full process, not slowly over time
- Use emotions (“spark joy”) to decide, not just logic
- The goal is a lifestyle shift, not just cleaning
- Clothes is easiest
- Books more attachment, but still manageable
- Papers - mostly unnecessary items
- Komono (miscellaneous)gadgets, cosmetics, etc.
- Sentimental items- hardest, emotional things
- Gather ALL items from one category in one place
- Hold each item individually because physical contact with items helps you decide faster and more honestly, without overthinking.
- Ask: “Does this spark joy?”
- If yes → keep
- If no → let go immediately
- Don’t sort or organize until decisions are done
- Everything you keep gets a clear “home”
- Storage should be simple and easy to maintain
- Goal is long-term order without constant effort
Less clutter, easier life, clearer mind, and a space that actually fits you.
This is a very short thread based on Marie Kondo's book "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up." I made it as short as possible so that after reading the thread you can immediately get motivated and start cleaning.
