can you choose your own family? how do you define family? at what point do you differentiate somebody you consider family vs a friend or a relative?

personally, i think family is always chosen. blood means very little besides the fact you're stuck with most blood relatives since birth and don't have much of a say.

I believe that blood runs deeper than is acknowledged nowadays. A good way to think about it is that your child is quite literally you. Half of their encoded biological information is you. That will forever be more important than chosen family; they're basically just responsible friends.

Of course, this is all subjective. I doubt that there is a definite answer; it all depends on your upbringing.
