Before getting into my experience - what do you guys think about it? Would you ever be up to trying it?
I remember @Flint tried it and it went tragically - we don't talk about that.
I am a raw food eater, i won't be trying to push it into anyone in this thread, I'm just here to talk about my thoughts.
I believe eating raw food is mainly tied to culture and a "way of living", than something very important nutritionally wise. This is why you'll notice most primal eaters be fans of controversial figures, such as goatis/sv3rige - or fans of various conspiracy theories, such as BIG PHARMA.
It's also the same people that will dream about living away from cities, on farms and in nature.
As you may know, primal is deeply connected to a nature lifestyle, which is also one of the main factors of its popularity. It rejects modern beliefs and believes that what's natural is best.
While i do personally think that it's optimal for health - as long as done right - It's never going to be something that the majority of people finds appealing, and since eating primal is so deeply rooted into the community, beliefs and theories, if you don't feel compelled to it BEFORE trying it, then you won't feel compelled to it AFTER trying it.
Do i feel exceptionally good eating raw food? Yes, of course.
Do i believe it's the only true diet? Somewhat, yes. As egotistical as it sounds.
But i also don't believe that it's something to be forced upon everyone, as it's by all means an 'extremist' way of living nowadays, DESPITE being natural.
That being said, there's also a big difference between different raw foods.
Raw dairy is by far the least extreme raw food that the primal community supports. It's delicious and you don't need to get 'accustomed' to the taste, it's also extremely easy to acquire compared to something like animal organs.
Raw milk - while made fun of a lot - is a good example of a perfect 'starter' raw food. If you ever plan on starting to eat this way, you don't jump straight first into taking an entire bite out of a raw veal liver, instead, you drink raw milk and make your own butter to see how you like the lifestyle.
I'm going to be 100% with my experience going forwards - this is how i started my own journey.
I read about primal a lot, i was always quite the conspiracy theorist already, so it was deeply in bedded into my brain as is. To be fair i always thought it was really cool - I saw videos, threads, posts and blogs about it, and thought that maybe they're right.
So when i started i was extremely excited and didn't think twice. I picked up a bunch of supermarket bought eggs and downed down down raw straight from a cup!!! What a great idea that was. Lemme just say my poop was liquid for the next 2 weeks.
But i didn't give up on it because I realised what I did was stupid. I went online and researched. I found a farmers site, bought unpausterized milk and fresh eggs, and tried them instead.
And it was great. Obviously I've never eaten egg whites raw since my first experience, but i always do egg yolks raw.
I drank like 3L of milk a day - which is way too overdone, but i believed i was being cool and finally healthy.
My milk finished in about 3 days, while my eggs in a week. Next time i decided to order way more, and put them in a jars.
I learned that by putting the milk in jars, you can scoop up fat and make butter and cream, which was my first experience with making raw butter.
All that to say, i didn't even try raw meat untill almost an entire month of trying out raw dairy. Which is where most people mess up by immediately going to the store and trying random raw meats.
When i finally went and tried it, i learned from my supermarket egg mistakes, and got some higher-end ribeye steaks from the butcher. I tried them raw and.. it wasn't great? I mean it was fine, edible, but i didn't understand why people preferred it over cooked meat. I ate it with honey because i couldn't bear to swallow it after 20 minutes of eating. Still, i ate it every day in hopes that it would magically get better. And yes, I did grow into the taste, and I think it's actually good now, but it wasn't ever anything exceptional.
It all changed when i once again did research and started ordering things from farmers - mainly organs, which was the next step in my journey.
I first bought bone broth and liver, lemme say, it was really good.
Compared to the steaks i was eating, that liver was like trying ice cream after a month of eating plain rice.
I'd stand in my kitchen and dance to songs while nibbling to my pieces of raw liver lol, it was amazing.
So that's when i really began loving primal, i knew that not only was i getting optimal benefits but I was also FINALLY enjoying myself. Not only that, but i also noticed benefits. My vitamin deficiencies were completely gone, my face lost its discoloring, and i slept way better and had way more energy.
After that i went on a spree of trying out different foods, hell there's barely anything i haven't tried. Brain, heart, ear, tail, testicle, tongue, eye, kidney..
And i won't lie, most of these weren't that great lol. Most of it just felt like trying something new than something I'd eat every day. When it comes to organs i always only recommend these three: Brain, liver, heart.
At this point, I don’t even think of it as some strict “raw diet” anymore.
It’s more just… eating food in its most natural state, from good sources, and paying attention to how your body reacts.
Raw just happens to be the furthest version of that.
Looking back at everything, i believe the main thing turning people off of primal is rushing into the extremes too quickly.
I did it myself, so i know what it's like.
The people who actually stick to this long term, are the people who ease into it slowly and enjoy themselves.
And that's what i believe primal is really about. It's mainly about listening to your body and knowing what's good for you, and not eating what people on primal tiktok tell you to eat.
My main rules of thumb always are
1. eat natural
2. prioritize quality
3. eat what you crave, as long as it's natural and high quality.
And I’ll be honest, not everything raw is instantly amazing.
Some things are better raw, some things are just easier or more enjoyable cooked.
The real difference for me came from quality and source, not just whether something was raw or not, although it ot course also makes a significant difference.
Best advice is to get your food from your farmers.
That's about it, I'm curious to see your guys thoughts on this.
