Explaining the theory
A study found that people slept slightly better and had calmer brain activity when their head faced towards the south while sleeping compared to east to west.
Another study found that people that sleep while their head is towards the south can have positive benefits on the sleep EEG.

Earth Magnetic fields
A study found out that when you sleep with your head facing toward the north, the magnetic field flows against your body axis, resulting in slightly worse sleep.
The study also found out that when you sleep with your head towards the south, the magnetic fields flow parallel with your body axis, resulting in better sleep.

Explaining how this works on the body
When you sleep and your head is facing towards the south, the magnetic fields flow parallel with your body axis. This is seen as more harmonious because you have less interference with the pineal gland and natural body rhythms.
A study suggests that aligning your body parallel to the earth's magnetic field reduces magnetic noise on the pineal gland.

How this could benefit you
If the theory is true and you get better sleep quality and more REM sleep while sleeping with your feet facing towards the north and your head towards the south, this means you would produce more growth hormone and more IGF-1 while sleeping, less stress on the pineal gland, more stabilized melatonin, etc.
You would also recover better, which means you would have less inflammation, etc.

Disclaimer
This is only a theory; I don't 100% support this theory.
