Sincere question: what is the point of prestige? In the states there's the Ivy League schools (Yale, Harvard, Princton, etc), there are extremely particular on admissions, but the quality of the education isn't necessarily much better than equivalent private universities. Their branding is just so significant because almost every president or powerful person has been there.
If you're looking for practical reasons, (at least in the US) focus on the area the school is located in as the number one priority. You will get a quality education at 90% of universities you attend as long as you put the work in. Your decision should be instead whether you want to deal with Seattle's never ending rain, Nashville's music related tourism, or Miami's Cuban influence. The question isn't "what's best" as opposed to "what do they have that I want". The school will tell you the majors and programs it has on their website.
